I just bought a pair of everglide gaming headphones and even with the volume in windows all the way up they arnt very loud. They arnt externally powered and have no volume control on them but when i plug them into my little sansa e250 mp3 player they are very loud. Other little headphones i use are much louder when hooked to the computer so im not sure why these are so quiet on windows. All my specs are in sig and im just using onboard sound. Anyway to increase volume further?question about headphone volume
Sometimes computers have a head phones jack, in a different location then where you plug your speakers into....if you're not using the correct jack the sound may be really quiet or muffled. Also, some speakers have a headphone jack near the power-up speaker or on/off switch to your speakers. I know that the volume control for my 5.1 surround sound speakers has a headphone jack on it. That's what I use and then I can adjust the volume in three locations - the volume control on my computer, the volume control on my headphones and the volume control on my speakers.Look around a bit on your tower and/or speakers and see if you have your headphones plugged into the correct location. Other then that, I couldn't tell you what is wrong.question about headphone volume
well the $30 logitech speakers i use have a headphone jack which is what i plug into but for some stupid reason the volume control on the speakers doesnt affect the volume of the headphones. Also since im running sli on my evga 750i mobo, the cord for the front audio ports wont reach to the hd-audio on the mobo. Heres a good queston, you said you can control the volume with your speakers, do your speakers amp the headphones or do they just resist the headphones? My speakers suck so maybe i can justify buying a new set if it will make my headphones work better.

My speakers suck so maybe i can justify buying a new set if it will make my headphones work better.[/QUOTE]I've got a decent set of Creative Labs speakers that I picked up about 4-5 years ago. I also do have a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card in my computer - I've had it for 4-5 years, too. The speakers I bought normally ran about $200, but I was able to purchase the display set (since the store was out of stock and wouldn't have any in for a while) and I got the speakers at half price. You can probably find a good set of speakers without breaking $100 that'll meet or exceed your needs. You mentioned that your headphones work fine with your MP3 player and not good on your computer and that you use your headphone jack on your speakers....perhaps the jack is faulty on your speakers? Perhaps a new set of speakers might be the correct course of action for you...? Or maybe there is a small short in the wires for your headphones that's made apparent when you plug them into your PC?As for my speakers, they amp the headphones. I could probably blow out my eardrums if I'm not careful with the volume. I've just got some $30 gaming headphones (mic attached), they're nothing special (I do wish they had some better padding, they start to hurt after 30+ minutes of wearing them) and work fine for my needs. There is on more thing that I can think of. I know that with my SB - Audigy card I can manually adjust how I want my speakers set up. I can choose if I just want Stereo, or 5.1 surround, or 7.1 (I don't have the speakers for that one) or headphones and maybe a few other choices. I know that if I don't set my speaker output to headphones, they don't work worth a damn. You might need to adjust your speaker setup when you want to use your headphones? You can do this in XP by going in the Control Panel, opening Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices, opening Sound and Audio Properties, under Speaker Settings clicking on the Advance button and then choosing headphones.I'm not sure about Vista, I haven't used it.
thanks for the reply i think i may start looking for a new set of speakers. These everglide headphones seem alright to me, provided i have them hooked to my mp3, they are loud and have decent bass. I can wear them for hours with no discomfort so they are pretty comfortable(plus i got them for $20 off woot.com). Can anyone recommend a set of 2.1 speakers? Im no audiophile so i dont need anything special. budgit around $100.
