laptop ram

I have a lonovo laptop with one gig of ddr2 pc- 4200, 200 pin, sodimm.I if I get new ram that is ddr2 pc- 5300, 200 pin, sodim; will it work?( basicly what is the difference between pc4200 and 5300) laptop ram
it should work. the difference between pc4200 and pc5300 is speed (pc5300 is faster). depending on the motherboard of ur laptop, if it only supports up to pc4200, u can still use a pc5300 except that it will only run at the speed of pc4200. so basically there is no point of getting a pc5300.laptop ram
PC-5300 is just a faster speed, thus your memory will be accessed faster. however you laptop motherboard needs to support the speed, to allow you to use it. If it doesn't you can ethier expand with same speed, or hold it out until you can get a new laptop. But PC-4200 DDR2 should be fine.
