Builing a Computer

I want to build myself the best gaming computer i can afford, is it really as easy and cost-effective as people say. I have experience inside computers, mostly taking them apart to sell the whats worth my while and destroying harddrives. I dont want to spend $6000 on an alienware whatever, but i want to come as close as i can for about a thousand dollards. Where does one start?thanksBuiling a Computer
CPU: E8400 or Q6600Graphics: 9600GT, HD4850, HD4870, 4870X2! (get whichever you can afford)Motherboard: If you dont need SLI or XFire get the Gigabyte P35-DS3L. RAM: 4GB's of 800Mhz DDR2HDD: Get whichever has enough space for you.CPU cooling: Arctic Freezer Pro 7 because its sooo cheap, silent and great for overclocking. Case: Get one that looks good to you and has at least 1 x 120mm intake and exhaust fan. Builing a Computer
thanks

cool, 1 more thing to go all out and make the absolute best computer how much do you reckon that would cost?

Without spending money on peripherals (monitor, speakers, etc). You could build a nigh top of the line machine for about $1200-1500, top of the line (using reason mind you, not just doing silly things like RAID 40 because you can) for under $2000.With your $1000 you'll be pretty close.
thats great cuz now i wont have to go through all that crap at the stores knowing i'm being ripped off
i stumbled upon this setup how does it soundCPU - q9450Motherboard: xfx nforce 790i ultraHard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750GB Video card: 2 XFX GeForce 9600 GT extreme edition

Tippers for processors E8400-E8500-E8600 those 3 brands are pretty much simualr expect one has 3.0GHz stock other has 3.16 then the other has 3.3. besides that they are basically the same chip if you can overclock well and your running a cool system all those 3 processors have the same cache as well. i recomend geting a E8400 and overclocking it at 4.0 Ghz if you have the cooling acorse.

Hows This Sound - still work-in-progress mixed and matched several suggestions from pcmag and u guys.CPU - E8400MoBo - Asus P5Q-EGraphics - HD4850RAM - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop MemoryHDD - Western Digital Caviar GP WD10EACS 1TB 5400 to 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive. or Western Digital Caviar SE16 7200Rpm SATA II 640GbCooling (CPU) - Arctic Freezer Pro 7Case - still looking (Xoxide.com ?)PSU - still looking about 600-800wattsSound Card - something cheaperhows this guy gonna perform?
would a full tower be ok or should a mid-tower do fine
A mid-tower will work fine but you might want to get a full tower if you're gonna do a lot of overclocking. It'll give you much better air flow. That build looks pretty good. It should handle everything you throw at it. You don't need a 600-800W PSU though, it's overkill for that system.
after reading the above posts my advice is that you make sure you get a single card solution with the ability to CF or SLI b/c at a $1000 price point you will wanna upgrade eventually, and the graphics card will be the easiest place to do that. (no new cpu slot/ ram standard etc)
