Good video card for Mac Pro?

After much consideration between an iMac and a Mac Pro, I decided to make the jump to Apple's big gun. I'm also going to be running Windows through Boot Camp for my daily needs (I need Mac OS X for work) and want to jump into the gaming world with this machine. It's my first time so a lot of my questions might sound elementary but I was just wondering what people's input would be.From what I reckon, everything in the machine stock is good for high quality gaming except the video card. The specs are8 Core (two) Intel 3.2GHz Quad Processors8 GB RAM2 TB Hard Drive StorageATI Radeon HD 2600 XT at 256 MB.I hear the video card is less than stellar so I was wondering what would be a good upgrade. Say, something that would be capable of running Crysis at high or even maxed out (I'm pretty sure the rest of the machine is capable, correct me if I'm wrong).Apple offers a configured update to the NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 which has 1.5 GB memory but also comes at around 2 grand so not quite going for that. And if video card isn't enough, I'd like to know what else I would need to upgrade to be able to run Crysis on max. Everything except the processor is upgradable (even though I doubt you would need any more storage, the RAM can go up to 32GB for God knows what kind of programs). Thanks!Good video card for Mac Pro?
I don't think you should plan on gaming with a Mac, no matter how good the specs seem. First of all, I think that uses a Xeon processor, which probably isn't too good for gaming, and two processors really won't make a difference in anything. Secondly, you need to make sure the power supply can support a high-end video card. I doubt there is even an option to change it when you configure the computer. If you really want a Mac, my advice would be to buy a cheaper notebook, and build a desktop PC for gaming. That would be cheaper than spending $4000 on a Mac Pro. Good video card for Mac Pro?
The video card is the limiting factor in games like Crysis. The Fx5600 is a workstation card. It's not meant for gaming. Go with the 8800GT instead. You'll be able to play Crysis on high but not on max. You'll need at least 2 8000GT for that but I don't think Macs support that.
well it will run med settings in new games but don't expect much more. you should get something like a 4870 to go with the rest of the setup if you want to run new games well. anything below a 3850 isn't going to last much longer for more than med settings @1280 x 1024.why not just save some money and get the imac (if you must have a mac) or just get a decent gaming pc? if you must go for the mac pro then take one of the cpus out and put in a 8800gt (the only decent gpu they offer and its not really that great anymore now there are 260 gtx and 4870s)
The (current) Xeon chips are the exact same thing as their Core 2 counterparts - better (higher bin quality) if anything. They're just fine for gaming. As previously stated, the 8800GT is your best bet for gaming, but if that's a primary concern of the machine, I wouldn't get the Mac Pro.
