DVD-RW wont play DVDs

I cannot play DVDs, thats basicly my problem, When I insert any dvd windows doesn't reconise it. If i open my computer and double click or ''explore'' the dvd driver it automaticly ejects the dvd and tells me to insert a disc.One thing i have notices is when i open the propertys of the drive It tells me that its ''type'' is a CD Drive. (I dont know if this will help or not.)It will however play DVD games and CD's perfectly.Help ASAP will be really helpful ciao x DVD-RW wont play DVDs
