After much looking at reviews and so on and so forth i think i have my pc all figured out.Heres my list....http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=8778132I went with the 280 mainly beacuse i have more faith in nvidias gpus and drivers as well as i rather not deal with the hitches of a multi gpu card. My budget was around 1500 or so and i think i got the most out of it... I plan to order this in the next 2-4 weeks or so but i think for the most part its final unless somone can really talk me out of somthing.Rate if you like... curious to see what people think. My Final Build Specs.
9/10... pretty gonna get the same performance as my setup, high five!My Final Build Specs.
Why bother with an X48 chipest board and an Nvidia card? You can't go SLI, so either get a cheaper P45 chipset board, or get an ATI card.Skip the Dominator RAM, Crucial overcharges you for the same stuff you can find in Crucial's Ballistix RAM.I wouldn't get a Zalman CPU cooler either - I'm much prefer to have a standard 120mm fan mounted on my cooler so I can change it if anything happens to it without having no CPU cooler while it's getting replaced. Especially since there are better and quieter coolers for the same price. The Seagate 7200.11 series also appear to have a few issues. I'd probably stick with the older 7200.10 series or get a Western Digital SE16 instead. And last but not least, I'd get something other than Arctic Silver 5. It's electrically conductive, and you can get non-conductive pastes that perform as well or better than AS5 for the same price. OCZ Freeze and Arctic Cooling MX-2 are two good examples.Edit: Oh, and with a setup like that, it's a shame to not have a sound card. I'd probably go with the ASUS Xonar DX.
Good Point about sound card and mobo, also note that the OS you have listed is no more than a service pack not the actually OS of Vista.
Yea... i know microsoft is rich but i dont think even they would charge 100 bucks for a service pack... Thanks for the suggestions... i may make a few changes. I think i will chnage the board.... any reccomendations? I really should get a sli board.
Uhm no reason to waste that much on that motherboard. You should get a cheaper P45/P43 mobo. 1. You cant use crossfire with a GTX 280. 2. Youll more then likely want to upgrade in a year. (New intel mobo + cpu coming out )Your ram seems to be a waste of money aswell, but these are just my opinion. 1. Crappy Cat 5 timings. ( Yeah I see the 2T timings ) 2. DDR 2 800 with Cat 4 will get similar performence and probably overclock better. EDIT: Once you upgrade your computer in the future, you wont be able to use the serial number that comes with that Vista disk. Its OEM. I suggest you get the RETAIL version of Vista 64bit.
So the oem version only works if i never upgrade my system? Newegg has no retail versions of vista home premium.... not sure what to do there. Still looking for a board... any suggestions?
Well, the OEM version will allow you to upgrade your computer. RAM, Graphics and probably CPU. NOT the motherboard, as that probably will be considered a ''new'' computer.Microsoft are not detailing exactly what is allowed and what isn't.
Well... i read up a bit and it seems its just the mobo... Considering retail costs over 200 bucks and the oem version is only 100 bucks i will still go with that as if i upgrade my mobo i can just buy another copy of oem and it still will be cheaper then buying retail... Dont see myseling switching mobos in the near future anyways... Im better off getting 64 bit tho still right? Im just worried about driver support etc...
From what I hear, the 64 bit driver situation is pretty good. Any new computer you buy should be supported. For any peripherals, check the suppliers homepage for drivers to see if the device is supported.
Im serriously looking into making a gaming desktop, And that looked awesome but i'll make a few suggestions (note im an newbie so dont take what i say as OMG LISTEN TO HIM)Ok it does seem like your wasting alot of money non your motherboard or as ive nwo figuered out (mobo) lol. Also you have picked an awesome processor and a graphics card that will last (in the future just put another card in and you have a 2gb sli monster)Also are you sure that its got enough cooling, im not being sarcastic or anything im just asking :-)You dont want that beast burning outCongrats for the build :-)
NA, colling wont be a issue as i went with a full tower case that has lots of fans. I mak change the heatsink yet though. The motherboard i want to change but im still not sure what to get. I def want somthing with sli support for if i want to add another gpu down the road... Cant afford 2 gtx 280s atm tho.... I gotta go to work so i will look back here later. Thanks for the help and suggestions!
With my XP OEM CD, once I upgraded my video card. It made it like I had a new computer and the serial number no longer worked..
Get the Maximus II Formula instead of the Rampage, you wouldn't need X48 chipset.

RayvinAzn is deadon about the Seagate Hard drive you have there (ST3500320AS), I have two of them, one was completely dead when I got it, and the other works, but not to the point where I would put or run anything important on it.I'm really questioning Seagates quality lately.
hanged a few things and added the sound card you suggested as well as getting that wd harddrive... I decided to go with a evga board that seems ok and will be like 230 bucks after the mail-in-rebate. Heres my updated list.http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=8789372
