I'll get right down to it: my video card seems to have serious issues and I need to know if it's fried or what. First off:ATi 4850, latest drivers (8.8.)AMD 6000+ X22 Gigs Corsair XMSI've never had any problems with gaming whatsoever. But now, over the past few days, certain games are completely unplayble due to some sort of extreme graphical tearing. The thing is, it only happens in certain games. Crysis and Spore are affected, but I can play any Source game perfectly at 60fps, no tearing. For reference, here's what happened when I got to the 2nd stage of Spore:
Now, you can see that the actual level is rendered just fine, except those giant colored planes cutting through the screen make it impossible to play. Same in Crysis. I've tried it on both monitors, with resolutions ranging from 800x600 to 1360x768, with numerous different refresh rates. I've turned off my GPU overclock (which was extremely low of an overclock anyway), and I've futzed with the CC setting in as many ways as possible. Nothing. Also, I think it's worth mentioning that the Cell stage of Spore worked fine, NO glitches. Also, if I load up the Crysis editor and play in the editor window, there are no glitches. Can anyone help me? EXTREME Graphical Glitches
There's the opening parachute scene in Crysis. In this screenshot I am looking AT the island, the flickering is just blocking the view. I think it's worth mentioning that whenI look at the sky in that scene, It is perfectly clear. It's only when I look directly at the island that it flickers and I can't see.And if anyone thinks it is a corrupt save file, the image above is from a new game in Crysis and the issue happened in SPore in one straight playthrough, I hadn't saved at all. EXTREME Graphical Glitches
I had similar problems but with a 8800 GTS 512 in crysis ONLY . I just updated the drivers and it worked. But you have the latest driver.Try a different driver
I wish I knew what to tell you. Anytime I've had issues, I just re-installed the game or drivers, and it wouldn't happen anymore. The thing that confuses me is the fact that Crysis works fine in the editor but not in the normal game mode.
Alright, I'm going to try to roll back to the original drivers, I'll report back as to whether it works or not. Hopefully it can help someone else avoid this.
IT WORKED! Oh, you guys rock. For anyone else that may or may in the future have this problem, all I did was uninstall all of the ATi software, then I ran Driver Cleaner to get rid of any leftovers. Then I installed the drivers from the CD that came with the 4850 and presto! Spore works. Thanks again for your help.
a happy ending awwww :-)
