9600GT V's 8800GT

I've been looking around and these cards are so close in benchmarks and games. The 9600GT I can get for cheaper than the 8800GT and the extra price of the 8800GT for what looks like a few frames on games than the 9600GT. I saw the 9600GT wins some benchmarks too at certain games at certain resolutions.What newer technology does the 9600GT have that the 8800GT doesn't? Will because it is a newer card beat the 8800GT when drivers are better optimised for the 9600GT.Which is better value? 9600GT V's 8800GT
I don't think the 9600GT actually has any newer tech, it's just a core revision. And the 9600GT is a better value at lower resolutions, but once you get above 16x10, then it's time to start considering the 8800GT.9600GT V's 8800GT
I haven't seen any benchmarks where the 9600gt beats the 8800gt but maybe it could happen(maybe you saw a 256MB 8800gt). If you play on lower resolutions then the 9600gt is the better buy. Do not be fooled by benchmarks, the 8800gt is the better card and at higher resolutions it will dominate the 9600gt. Basically as you up the AA, AF, and resolution the differences between the cards become more apparent. If your gonna use 1280x1024 or better you should probably get the 8800gt.
I just read that the 9600GT is PCIe2.0. Is the 8800GT? is there any benifit for this on a card or not?And what about in SLI 8800GT Vs 9600GT. I see in some benchmark 9600GT SLI can beat the 8800GT SLI in Crysis game. Why do Nvidia make so many cards. It just makes my decision harder.
They're both PCi-e 2.0, but it's backwards-compatible with PCI-e x16, and since no card on the market oversaturates PCI-e x16 bandwith anyway, it's a moot point really.

I going to buy the 9600GT. I don't think a few frames more is worth the extra 35% extra to pay for the card. UK prices. 9600GT being ?00. 8800GT ?35.

You can play at better resolutions , have better AA , ect... but the 9600 is still a good card and good pick as long as you dont have a big monitor.
My monitor is old CRT max res 1600x1200. I've looked at most benchmarks I can find and even with AA the difference is but a few frames which is strange as the 8800GT has so many more shader processes, maybe it makes up because of faster clocks but it is so close between them. The 9600GT also looks like it overclockers more and new cards get better with drivers after time.
If you can point me to some good benchmarks for the cards. I've seen a few but I may miss some.
I'm planning on the 9600gt superoverclock 512mb card and I'm planning to get this cause this one is the same as the normal one.I'm not sure how bad this card could be compare to the 8800gt but non the less I just may go ahead and buy the 9600gt superclocked card. It all depends on how much money I get from my birthday come the first of the month.
If I have the money then I'll get the 8800gt 512 card but if I'm short then I'll go for the 9600gt 512mb card.

All of those 9600gt's that barely beat out the 8800gt are all OC'd, while that 8800gt is standard. Not only that, but Crysis at very high with DX10 is not a good choice to look at for benchmarks, simply because all cards get destroyed by Crysis at that point. Look at the FPS, you couldn't even play the game with 10FPS so it doesn't make sense to compare it at that level.Check out the 9600gt comparison here and here(Check out other games besides Crysis too) In a lot of the comparisons the 8800gt wins by over 10FPS, especially at the higher the resolutions.Since your looking for price/performance you should probably get the 9600gt as it would fill that role nicely. Just don't think that the 9600gt will beat out the 8800gt performance wise.

My native resolution is 1440x900, so does that mean I should use the 1280x1024 or the 1600x1200 results when deciding on what card to get?
The 9600GT is ment to be in SLi configuration, that is why it isn't that strong, and it is cheap, so that you can SLi it for a medium price.
