Upgrading advice

Im thinking of upgrading my video card from a X1950 Pro. It seems to be a bit out dated now for all the new games. Im on a tight budget so I was thinking of getting an 8800GT. Is it still worth buying one? I can get one for under ?00 which is probably about as far as I can go.Also my CPU is a AMD X2 4200 @ 2.21 GHz. Will this slow down the 8800 GT in any way? Thanks.Upgrading advice
I'm using an X1900XT and all my games are still running fine. Granted, my CPU is quite a bit more powerful than yours (E6600 @ 3.2GHz), but I'd try overclocking your CPU a bit and seeing where that gets you before upgrading your graphics card. It's almost time though, I've been contemplating taking the plunge myself.Upgrading advice
I wouldnt have a clue how to overclock my CPU.

If I chose to upgrade my video card anyway would the 8800GT be better or the ATI HD 4850?
ATI Radeon HD 4850 is better than the 8800GT
ATI Radeon HD 4850 is better than the 8800GT
BUT from a value perspective, the 8800GT is still a great card since you can find them for less than $130 in some places.Either card will suit you very well indeed. If you can spend around $180 go for the HD4850, but if you want to save a bit of cash, around $130 for an 8800GT isn't giving you a bum card either.
Would both cards work well with my CPU?
Would both cards work well with my CPU?
There might be a slight bottleneck, but nothing I'd worry about too much. What you can do is upgrade to a Nehalem system sometime next year, carry over the 8800GT/HD4850 you get now, and put your X1950Pro on backup duty with the rest of your system.Bottom line, you'll see some impressive gains going from the X1950Pro to either the 8800GT or HD4850.
you should buy a nvidia 8800gt and no it wont slow down your computer
What memory do you have on your computer? If you have 1 gig then you will need to push that higher as well. I would say the 8800GT is good, my 8600GT runs everything fine, Crysis demo is on medium with no frame rate issues. The only game I have had any issues with is Unreal Tournament 3 where I suffered some frame rate issues but that was an online game so could possibly have been lag.
Ive got 2GB

Another thing - will it be able to run off my 520W PSU
