Help a noob?

i'm interested in possibly building a desktop PC. it should be mildly competent, and should run gears of war, halo 2 and all that good stuff. maybe crysis on some setting (not nessesarly max)i already have a tower i could potentialy shell and put it in. what sort of price would i be looking at.Help a noob?
I'd plan around $700 as a minimum, although you could go lower if you really push it.Help a noob?
ok...um....lets say i want to just start out with Halo 2 and TF2...and upgrade down the road :?
It should still be around $700 or so for a solid machine.

Here's a build that'll suit your needs and costs just under $500, assuming you already have a keyboard, mouse, monitor etc. Should handle current and upcoming games pretty well.CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ $59.50Mobo - GIGABYTE GA-MA770-DS3 $79.99RAM - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 $43.99Video card - Zotac 9600GT 512mb $109.99HDD - Seagate 250gb $54.99 PSU - Antec True Power Trio TP3-550 550W $59.99Optical drive - LG 20X DVD盧 DVD Burner $24.99Case - COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 $39.99Total cost - $473.43
That's a pretty good setup, but I'd opt for 4GB of RAM given how cheap it is and how close we are to seeing its benefits. You'll also probably need to add another $100 for a copy of Windows. And maybe it's just me, but I prefer a little more drive space.
am running Crysis on High (res. 1280) with around 25 Fps , as for Gears of war my rig is owning it and it would cost you much less than 700$
If you want a good guide lineusing http://www.pcspecialist.co.ukIntel?Core%26trade;2 Duo E8400 (2 X 3.00GHz)4GB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz motherboard: ASUS?P5Q DELUXE:Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Edition 160GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7,200rpm)512MB RADEON HD 4870 PCI Express + DVI (This graphics card is great and you can always add another in crossfire)FOR -------------- ?07 ------------You can always down size the CPU and the graphics card, thats preety good for that budget if you ask me :)

Todays high end is tomorows midrange. Could an Xbox keep you satisfied till say january?
oh i have a 360. and i want to start exploring the PC side of gaming. im not in a huge rush though. especily since it will take me several months to afford what you guys are pointing out at minimum price XDi have a fairly competent rig right now, only problem is XP won't run some of the games i want to play.

Perhaps you could list your specs - could just use an upgrade and get serious performance if your rig allows. You could dual boot vista XP on your current rig to play those games that require dx10. :)
i posted my specs rather recently in the sticky thread about running orange box, halo2 and assassins creed. trouble is that upgrading is not my call whatsoever. and my dad dosen't want vista on here.
